I don’t think I’ll ever forget Ashley and Matt’s Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury wedding. It was one of those days that started quietly and built into something truly special. Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury NJ is already one of my favorite spots to photograph. It’s a grand Georgian mansion with perfectly kept gardens, soaring windows, and this sense of calm that makes you breathe easier the second you enter. Ashley and Matt chose it because it matched their vision of a black, white, and gold celebration, elegant but welcoming, with just the right amount of sparkle.

These two actually met on Hinge and had their first date at Bemelmans Bar in NYC. It was supposed to be just a night out, but they clicked so naturally that they’ve been inseparable since.
Matt proposed on a dock in Port Washington, surprising Ashley with a sunset cruise and dinner with their parents afterward. That mix of romance, planning, and family connection made so much sense after spending a day with them, as they’re both intentional and very close to their people.
On the wedding day, Ashley got ready at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury with her bridesmaids in blush pink pajamas and fluffy white slippers, before changing into her off-the-shoulder A-line ballgown. The groomsmen were in classic black suits, with Matt getting ready nearby at a hotel and then joining everyone at the venue once it was time.
Before seeing each other, Ashley and Matt exchanged personalized cards and gifts. Instead of rushing through that part of the day, they gave themselves space to read and really feel it. That small window of quiet emotion set the tone for everything that followed.
Their first look and portraits around Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury took advantage of the mansion’s architecture and manicured grounds. This NJ wedding venue is a dream for a Shadowbrook Shrewsbury wedding photographer: gardens, walkways, the front entrance, and elegant interiors all within steps of each other, so the couple could flow through portraits without feeling pulled away from their day.
The ceremony took place at the Shadowbrook wedding pavilion, the bright indoor space with large windows and an open, airy feel. It’s one of the reasons Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury is such a strong choice for a NJ mansion wedding venue, especially when weather is unpredictable. The light was soft and flattering, and the space gave that feeling of being almost outdoors while still comfortable for everyone.
This was a true multicultural celebration: Matt is Italian, Ashley is Indian, and their Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury reception brought both sides together in the most joyful way. The groom’s mother-son dance to an Italian song had the room emotional, and later the DJ filled the night with Indian songs that pulled everyone onto the dance floor. Indian drummers added even more energy, and many guests came in traditional Indian outfits, which brought a beautiful burst of color to the black, white, and gold theme.
Ashley and Matt are big foodies, so the menu mattered. Their reception featured a huge variety of dishes from different cuisines, with lots of Italian favorites and plenty of Indian food as well. Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury is already known as a luxury wedding venue in NJ, and for these two, that elevated food experience was a perfect fit.
Inside, the Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury wedding ballroom space looked grand and luminous, with chandeliers, high ceilings, and a dance floor that stayed packed all night. The reception was exactly how they described their vision: elegant, classy, sophisticated, and then absolutely lively once the music hit.
One of my favorite contributions to Ashley and Matt’s day came right after the ceremony. As their Shadowbrook Shrewsbury wedding photographer, I suggested we carve out just 15 minutes in the backyard garden. Away from family, cocktail hour, and all the bustle, just for the two of them alone.
They’d already done their full portrait session earlier after the first look, so this wasn’t about more photos. It was about giving them space to breathe, laugh, and soak in those raw first moments as husband and wife. Those images became some of our absolute favorites because they captured unfiltered joy that no one else got to witness. They later told me it was one of the most meaningful breaks of their entire day.
After the wedding, Ashley and Matt sent the kind of note that reminds you why this work matters: “Alina and her team are incredible and so easy to work with. It’s evident how passionate all of them are about their work! They are so professional and thoroughly prepare you for your big day. Everyone including myself was blown away by the photos. Thank you thank you thank you. I’m already looking forward to our next photoshoot lol!”
